    The new faculty training and curriculum reform are important links to improve the quality of teaching. Invited by American Physical Society,a delegation of four people from Chinese Physical Society took part in"The Workshop for New Physics and Astronomy Faculty"last November. In this paper the workshop is introduced,which involves the main work of American colleagues in teaching strategy,assessment and evaluation,means and resources,faculty training of physics and astronomy curricula. In addition,the feelings of participants about the workshop are expressed. Some suggestions are proposed for the physics teaching in the teaching environment,teaching research and faculty training at colleges and universities in China.

    The physical process of the formation of a cycloid is analyzed and the parameter equation is obtained. According to the law of vector for the velocity,the direction of tangent of each point of the cycloid and the length of the cycloid are calculated. An analogy on the Fermat's theory and the equivalence of simple harmonic motion and circular motion are made and thus the fastest falling line and "isochronous"of the cycloid are proved.

    The principle of Kundt's tube experiments is studied. An explanation of the experimental phenomenon is given in detail,which is that besides the main standing wave mode,the first higher mode is excited. The sound field in a Kundt's tube is the superposing of the two standing wave modes.

    There are different views in current references about the vibration source and whether it can make eight scales musical interval when the glass chimes produce sound. In this paper,the following evidence by the experiment is provided. If the rim of the glass is tapped,the air column produces sound,but if we tap the outer wall of the glass,the glass body produces sound. Thus we find out the reasons why some references think that they produce the same sound. First,some research models are incorrect. Second,measurement methods are different. For the eight scales musical interval about the"glass chimes",it is proved by the experiment that it is not impossible or very difficult to produce it.

    The equation of the current transformation of the non-ideal flyback transformer is derived according to the principle of energy conservation. The characteristic of current transformation is analyzed,and its physical nature is explained. The current waveforms of the flyback transformer are measured,and the experimental results are in agreement with the theoretical analysis and the derived equation of the current transformation. In essence,the continuity of the inductance current is that of magnetic flux. The continuity of the flyback transformer magnetic flux behaves to remain the ampere-turns of the transformer unchanged.

    Through experimental investigation,we put forward a method of scratching hologram by which great"three-dimensional"images can be made; also analyzed the imaging principle of scratching hologram qualitatively and gave the quantitative theoretical explanation based on the law of reflection. Finally we got the curve consistent with the experimental results by means of numerical simulation so as to visualize the result of theory,and then the"image deformation",and position of images were discussed,and proved that the stereo sense of the scratching holographic is not derived from binocular stereoscopic vision principle.

    After the brief introduction of the structure and principle of Fabry-Pérot interferometer,Matlab is used to simulate the interference patterns. Simulation is mainly focused on the effect of reflectivity,spacer layer thickness,refractive index,the beam incident angle and wavelength on the interference patterns. Finally,the two concepts of free spectral range and fine degree are vividly explained by the Matlab simulation. This work will help readers to better understand the principle and function of Fabry-Pérot interferometer in Zeeman effect experiment.
