Abstract: The electrostatic self-energy of a uniformly charged ellipsoid is calculated. The ellipsoid is composed

of non-conductor. The method is to divide the thick ellipsoid into infinite thin coaxial ellipsoidal shells with the

same eccentricity ratios. The electrostatic self-energy formula for a uniformly charged ellipsoid of general shape is

obtained by considering the respective self-energy of every thin shell and interaction energy for each other.
