Abstract: Most college students have difficulties in learning physics. In order to improve the quality of teaching, this paper starts with the analysis of test scores of Newtonian mechanics as part of the course—Fundamental Physics using SPSS software. The test scores come from two exams: one is Force Concept Inventory, and the other is the teacher's selfdesigned calculus-based Newtonian mechanics quiz.Descriptive statistics, normality test, difference test and correlation analysis were carried out on the scores of Class 06 of the course in Grade 2022 students at Beijing Normal University.Based on the analysis of specific test questions,it is concluded that students are easily confused with related knowledge, poor in the application of theoretical knowledge in physical situations, and low in the mastery of mathematical tools such as calculus. In view of the above problems, some teaching suggestions are put forward.
