With the rapid development of nuclear power industry in China，the problem of environmental radiation attracts increa singly attention. This new research experiment named“Gamma spectrometry of environmental radiation based on HPGe detector measuring system”provides an effective way for students to acquire some knowledge about environmental radiation. In this experiment，a HPGe detector measuring systemis built up to detect the radiation from environment. Benefitting from the high energy resolution of this system，the result of gamma spectrometry of environment clearly demonstrates the radiation sources. In this experiment a series of parameters should be set up to ensure the system work in good condition. During the process the student will understand working principles of HPGe detector measuring system and acquire some skills of experiment operations. Also，a method of analyzing complicated gama-ray energy spectra is introduced in this experiment.
