This paper presents the physics tournament and its development in China，which is a physics teaching practice based on the IYPT. Not only does this activity promote the reforms of methods，contents，and assessment of physics teaching & learning，but also enhances students’comprehensive ability. It introduces a series of open interactive courses. It has been widely accepted and has effectively promoted the link between secondary and tertiary physics teaching，thus，becomes a helpful and creative teaching experiment on talent training in physics
