考克饶夫和瓦尔顿对人工核蜕变的研究

摘要: 介绍了考克饶夫和瓦尔顿的生平;记述了考克饶夫受伽莫夫理论的启发,提出建造高压加速器计划的过程;回顾了考克饶夫和瓦尔顿如何克服困难建造实验装置,完成人工加速带电粒子引起核蜕变的实验;剖析了考克饶夫和瓦尔顿成功的要素:抓住机遇、密切合作、勤奋工作和百折不挠的毅力等.

Abstract: The biographies of Cockcroft and Walton are outlined.How Cockcroft drew inspiration from Gamow's theory an d submitted his plan of construct a high-voltage accelerator is reviewed.How th ey surmounted difficulties and accomplished the experiment of transmutation of n uclear by artificial means is recounted.The important factors which made them success such as they could seize the opportunity,cooperate in harmony wit h each other,work diligently and be undaunted by repeated setbacks are analyzed.
