Discussion on treatment of random error

Abstract: Some concepts (including the variance and the standard deviation) about random error in textbooks on physics experiments are discussed. Some related equations (including Bessel equation and the equation for standard deviation of arithmetic mean value) are proved, and some non-self-consistent descriptions for normal distribution are corrected.
