Abstract: Half-wave voltage is an importance physical quantity that figures to how voltage influences phasic difference in the electro-optic modulation. Exemplifying LiNbO3 crystal transverse electro-optic modulation, this paper analyzes physical signification of the half-wave voltage and discusses the relation between the deferent optic intensity and the adscititious voltage. Three metrical methods such as optical communication stimulant, extremal measure, and frequency doubling modulation are introduced. Two ways to improve the linear modulation are proposed and an application of electro-optic switch is referred.

Key words: half-wave voltage, optical communication stimulant method, extremal measure method, frequency doubling modulation method
