Abstract: In the experiment of determination of liquid surface tension by using capillary tube method, the electrically conductive character of liquid is used to realize the measurement of liquid capillary rise height by installing a metal probe, along axis,to the measuring rod of micrometer screw gauge and detecting both inner liquid surface positions of the capillary tube and the tank by means of electrical method. The capillary rise heights at a few different temperatures are measured respectively by the probe method. The Rayleigh's equation is used to calculate the surface tension coefficients.Experimental results have shows that the repeatability of probe method to measure capillary rise height is well, the percentage error of determined surface tension coefficient of distilled water is about 0.12% less than the recognized valuel.
