Abstract: Based on the weak dissipation assumption, the expressions for the power output and efficiency of a Carnot heat engine are obtained and the optimal relation between the power output and the efficiency is derived. The general performance characteristics of the irreversible Carnot heat engine are discussed. Some of the important results appearing in the literature are conveniently deduced.
