Abstract: With years＇ experience on teaching undergraduate solid state physics,here my considerations are illustrated on the following aspects： how to give an interesting start,chapter arrangement,common features to emphasize in sections of crystal structure,lattice vibration and band theory,the feasibility of single electron approximation,and the rationality of selection of advanced materials up- to- date to cover in the later shortened one semester course.
