Abstract: We investigate the hydrogen atom model in quantum mechanics by using the variational method and present the corresponding deduction. The software Mathematica is utilized to calculate the optimal trial wave functions and the corresponding energy levels. We also compare our results with the exact ones given by the confluence hypergeometric function ( Kummer function) .
