Abstract: A slinky exhibits unusual behavior when it is released at the top end from the rest hanging state under
its own weight. This article performs an analysis on the dynamics of a free falling slinky by static and dynamic
models according to college physics,and has found that the peculiar motion of a falling slinky is due to the wave
propagation. The experiments have verified the conclusions from the models.
