Polarization modes of lattice waves in two-dimensional honeycomb lattices

摘要: 本文探讨了二维蜂窝晶格的格波在不同波矢处的偏振模式,旨在为固体物理关于晶格振动的教学提供新的思路.通过分析蜂窝晶格的动力学模型,可写出晶格振动的动力学矩阵本征方程,并由此求解格波色散关系和偏振模式.利用对称性分析可知高对称波矢位置M和K处分别具有线偏振和圆偏振的格波振动模式,由此可简化晶格振动问题的求解.在此基础上可利用量子力学微扰理论来求解K点附近波矢的格波,其偏振模式为椭圆偏振.

Abstract: This work analyzed polarization modes of lattice waves at various wave vectors in two-dimensional honeycomb lattices, which can provide new insights for teaching lattice vibrations in Solid State Physics. The dynamical matrix of the lattice vibration and its eigenvalue equation can be obtained through analyzing the lattice motion, from which the phonon dispersion and polarization can be solved. Symmetry analysis indicates that the vibration modes at high-symmetry wave vectors M and K have linear and circular polarizations, respectively. A perturbation theory from Quantum Mechanics can be used to solve lattice waves at wave vectors near K, which are found to exhibit elliptical polarizations.
