This essay describes the work of three scientists who had made great contribution to invention of the earliest three types of transistor. It uncovers some true stories about scientific research and mirrors their attitude towards science and their extraordinary creativity. It also illustrates some regrets and insufficiencies of them, from which successors can learn some lessons.

Wave equations for two different types of rotating strings are given in some reference books or text- books of methods of mathematical physics, but the effect of the Coriolis force is not taken into account. There-fore the discussions are incorrect (for vertical rotating heavy string) or incomplete (for horizontal rotating light string). These wave equations are re-derived and their solutions are discussed.

The ground-state energy of two-dimensional quantum dot with two electrons is calculated by using perturbation, numerical exact diagonalization and variational theory. When Compared with earlier unrestricted Hartree-Fock studies, it turns out that the three-parameter variational wave function is an excellent repre- sentation of the true ground state.

The motions of several kinds of common linear spring combination are studied using the Lagrange function method. Numerical solutions are obtained for non simple harmonic vibrations. The results show that the solutions for small vibrations belong to certain typical non-linear oscillations. The analyticl and numerical solutions are also compared.

The shape of soapfilm and its characteristic and process of variation in the experiment on double funnel soapfilm are researched. An important conclusion is educed in theory and validated by experiment: the maximum distance between the two funnel is the funnel radius times 1. 325. The carelessness about this problem in some textbooks is pointed out.

In the experiment named "Studies on the transient processes in a RLC series circuit", large differences between the theoretical and the experimental values of the damp oscillating period have been detected. It has been found that these differences are induced by the capacitance between the two probes of the oscillograph and the "zero capacitance" of the capacitors. Experiments are performed to obtain the value of these two capacitances and the theoretical values of the damp oscillating period are recalculated with the consideration of these two capacitances

The experinaent of measuring the surface tension coefficient is studied. The experimental principles are analyzed and the differences between the use of the spring and sensors are pointed out. The formula of calculating the surface tension coefficient is given by using power sensor. The precision of the experiment is improved and the operation is simplified.
