The basic properties of the nonlinear Landau-Zener tunnelling, a new quantum tunnelling phenomenon is reviewed, which is discovered in interacting two-level systems, such as Bose-Einstein condensates in optical lattices and molecule magnets. It is found that the nonlinearity induced by the repulsive interaction can enhance the tunnelling probability compared to the usual linear Landdau-Zener tunnelling. When the nonlinearity is strong enough, the adiabaticity can break down:an infinitely small external linear force can cause finite tunnelling probability.

A new-type tunable infrared filter-liquid crystal Fabry-Perot filter is presented. Its principle, parameter and implementing are introduced. Dependence of transmission spectrum, finesse, and bandwidth on mirror reflectivity and cavity gap are discussed. The impact of applied voltage and temperature on transmission wavelength is analyzed. Several polarization insensitive modules are given. The applications of liquid crystal Fabry-Perot filter to space sensing, especially infrared sensing, are foreseen.

In right-handed material, the group velocity and the energy are in the same way of electromagnetic wave, the phase velocity and the group velocity desires of the Rayleigh relation of electromagnetic wave. In this paper, in order to study the electromagnetic properties of left-handed material, the phase velocity, the group velocity and relation each other of electromagnetic wave in left-handed material is proved theoretically, and to a conclusion negative group velocity of electromagnetic wave. The application of left-handed material is introduced.

Based on the scalar diffraction theory and the boundary condition of Rayleigh-Sommerfeld, the accurate on-axis propagating wave function of plane wave diffracted by small circular band is obtained by solving the first integral of Rayleigh-Sommerfeld. By means of the function, the extremas of on-axis light intensity, the locations and number as a function of the radius of small circular band are analyzed, and then extend the conclusion as the inner radius trends to zero or outer radius trends to infinity. This study offers the conclusion not only for the application of engineering and technology but also for the optics education.

The alternating bridge has got extensive applications in electronic industry, electric measurements of many non-electric quantities. However, the problem is that, in the application of the bridge, the electric power of the balance null indicator and that of the bridge must be connected to the ground at the same time, They each have earths and cannot be connected together. The problem can be effectively solved by using photocell and LED. A method which is used to solve the problem is reported.
