We show that how to foster student scientific literacy through college physics courses. Some concrete cases are emphasized in the paper. In our physics courses,we pay attention to the cultivation of critical thinking ability. Therefore they can explore scientific questions actively and work out the problems. Here we expound the effective methods to cultivate undergraduates' spirit of seeking truth and innovation.

2014 Nobel Prize in physics was awarded jointly to three scientists for the invention of efficient blue light- emitting diodes, which leads a revolution of solid state lighting. Now LED is illuminating the world and benefiting of the mankind. This paper traced the evolution of blue LED from the earliest Ga N growth, and reviews the important historic achievement of LED development. III- nitrides are direct band- gap semiconductors, with its emission wavelength covering the whole spectrum from ultraviolet, visible to infrared. They are ideal material to fabricate optoelectronic devices. And because of exceptional physical properties, they are also suitable for application in high- speed and high- power electronic devices.
    Dielectric constant of ferroelectrics

Discrepancy of definition of dielectric constant between dielectric physics and ferroelectric physics is compared. This discrepancy leads to opposite result in explaining dielectric behavior in ferroelectric ceramics:the ferroelectric physics can properly explain the experimental phenomena of the relationship between polarization and dielectric constant, and the dielectric tenability of ferroelectrics, while dielectric physics can not. The reason is due to the softening of one of transversal optic modes in the phase transition regime, while the dipoles decreases dielectric constant and increases loss. The composition fluctuation model of Smolensky for explaining the relaxation behavior in the paraelectric phase is denied in two aspects: symbol error is found in mathematical derivation, and numerical simulation result with different distribution widths of Gaussian function is different from the observed experimental one.

The Hamiltonian containing shielding effect parameters is established by considering the helium-like atom electron nuclear shielding effect, the ground state energy of the helium- like atom is investigated by the perturbation theory. In comparison with non- parametric perturbation method, the energy acquired by parameter perturbation method, exactly the same as by the variational method,is close to the experimental values. It indicates that the parameter perturbation method provides us a new approach to study the multi- electron atomic levels and the fine structure of atomic levels.

The Madelung constant of the double atomic system on a circle with radius R is calculated. It has been proved numerically that the Madelung constant for the circle case is identical to that for the linear chain case under the condition of infinite number of primitive cells, which demonstrates intuitively the physical base of periodic boundary conditions. Based on such results, two identical relations are obtained.

In order to complete the moment of inertia and product of inertia properties of the plot remaining fixed for any of the center of the coordinate origin of the coordinate system axis, the compensation method is used to prove uniform rigid sheet showing the shape of a half Tai Chi diagram. The special nature of the graphics area semi- Tai Chi movement of charged particles in a uniform magnetic field is discussed. The latter shows the Tai Chi diagram inherent physical beauty.

A method to determine the resonant frequency of forced and damped vibrating system is introduced. After combining the amplitude-frequency with the phase- frequency characteristics of the vibrating system,we enhance the response contrast ratio and minimize the jamming signal of the vibrating system so as to get higher accuracy resonant frequency. This method can be used to other systems which have similar relationship of amplitude- frequency and phase-frequency.

According to the concept of cognitive psychology, the students ' knowledge of combination of mathematics and physics is represented through constructing the cognitive structure of the combination of mathematics and physics in the brain. In the reform of mathematics and physics teaching,we firstly use the method of concept assi-milation to help students to understand and master the concepts and laws of physics, then build the optimal cognitive structure of the combination of mathematics and physics. Finally, through practice,we cultivate students' abilities to use the skills of mathematics to solve physical problems. Through more than 10 years constant teaching practice,we have found a better solution to the problem of mathematics and physics combination and achieved combining teaching with general physics and theoretical physics.

Changing the previous research technique relying mainly on experiment,we attempt to analyze and calculate quantificationally the evaporation rate from the perspective of phenomenological theory. The basic formula of evaporation rate is deduced under the condition of no wind, and the result has shown that the main influence factor are temperature and humidity; the humidity and evaporation rate are in a certain linear relationship with certain temperature. Comparing with Dalton evaporation model, the physical meaning of the Dalton model parameters is obtained. In the case of nonlinear area, the wind speed model is generalized, the concrete expression of evaporation phenomenological coefficient is calculated under the condition of no wind. The nonlinear model coincides with the experimental results preferably. It also shows certain rationality after comparing the wind speed model with the experimental data.
